Cedar Plank-Grilled Salmon
I’ve had some cedar planks around since we bought our grill this summer and never used them. Today was nice and sunny so I thought this would be the perfect day for grilling and a good occasion to use those cedar planks to make grilled salmon (my husband’s favourite fish). These cedar plank-grilled salmon fillets are incredibly tender and have a nice smoky flavour from the cedar. In this recipe I soaked the planks in warm water but you could use white wine or apple cider to accent wood aromas and add a richer flavour to your salmon. You can serve the salmon with Roasted Vegetables.
Are you a big fan of salmon? Check out another delicious recipe I posted a while ago for Roasted Salmon Steaks.

5licious: Chicken Breast with Plums
This is the main dish recipe I was talking about in my previous post. I spotted the recipe in a Romanian magazine called ‘Bucataria pentru toti’ (the September issue) so I thought I should give it a try. It was very good but very different from what I usually cook. The plums give the chicken a delicious fruity flavour that will delight your taste buds.

Grilled Lobster Tails Sandwich
For some unknown reason I never got overly excited about lobster… plus they are kind of ugly, they look like big cockroaches, don’t they?! A few years ago while vacationing in Cuba we had the chance to eat the most perfectly cooked lobster fresh from the ocean. We went on a boat ride and one of the Cuban guys on the boat caught a few huge lobsters. By the time we came back from our snorkeling session at the coral reef the table was loaded with lobster and fresh fruit that I couldn’t resist. This is the time when I pretty much fell in love with lobster. Boiled lobster is very tasty but I think grilling adds a little bit more flavour. Grilled lobster tails are quick and easy to make and super delicious! [Read more...]
Turkey Breast with Herb Stuffing Wrapped in Bacon
A couple of weeks ago I bought Weber’s Way to Grill book by Jamie Purviance and decided to try out this mouth-watering recipe. Every time I get in a store with cookbooks I feel like a kid in the candy store. I could spend hours reading about food, analyzing recipes and admiring irresistible pictures. I love this Weber book because it’s laced with gorgeous step-by-step pictures and it has great tips & tricks on grilling.

Beer Roasted Chicken on Our New Grill
This weekend we bought a Char-Broil grill. It has an infrared cooking system which helps prevent flare-ups , you get more even cooking temperatures and the food is juicer… all while using less fuel than traditional gas grills. We’ve done our share of research and enjoyed many bbqs cooked to perfection on this grill at our friends’ place before choosing this grill. So Sunday afternoon we cooked a DELICIOUS beer roasted chicken and some roasted peppers on the new grill. Now the recipe for the beer-in-the-butt chicken : ))… the one for the roasted peppers salad I made coming soon.

Cream of Mushroom Soup
I’m a mushroom lover (yeah I know, nothing new here!), they are so tasty and you can make so many dishes with them. The other day I realized that I have many recipes with mushrooms but no soups so I decided to make this light and tasty Cream of Mushroom Soup. It’s perfect for the chilly spring days or not-so-hot summer days and we have many of these around here

5licious: Garlic Chicken Livers Served with Polenta
These pan-fried chicken livers with a touch of garlic and served on top of polenta will get your taste buds watering like no other. It’s a traditional Romanian recipe found in just about every restaurant – just ask for ‘Ficatei cu Mamaliguta’ if you ever visit Romania. There is a secret to making the perfect dish and that is not to overcook the livers if you don’t want to end up with dry livers and dull flavours. Livers are a great source of protein and by far the richest iron-rich food so give it a try not only for your taste buds but for your health too!

5licious: Baked Potatoes with Cheese & Sour Cream
These baked potatoes were my specialty in grades 6 & 7. This is actually the first recipe I wrote down in my very first cooking notebook from the ‘90s. And trust me when I say it’s a very quick and easy recipe… if an 11-year-old can make this, anyone can

Grilled Chicken, Asparagus and Mushrooms Sandwich
Asparagus is in season this month! Actually, in Ontario, May is the prime asparagus growing season so make the most out of it while you can. As I mentioned in my previous post, we picked some fresh asparagus and rhubarb from Andrews’ Scenic Acres farm in Halton Hills/Milton. I showed you the delicious Rhubarb & Strawberry Pie I made and now it’s time to learn the easiest way to cook asparagus. This sandwich is very tasty and perfect for a light and healthy meal. For a vegetarian version of the sandwich, just take the chicken out
