We’re back from our three-week vacation in Romania… we had a super busy schedule but can’t complain. We spent some quality time with our family & friends and visited many beautiful places – Danube Delta surpassed all! I have truly missed cooking and blogging but I’m ready to come back . I have so many delicious recipes I want to share with you, starting with this delicious country-style pork soup. The Country-Style (or Peasant) Soup is a traditional Romanian dish usually made with pork or beef and various vegetables. [Read more...]
This is such a savory recipe with a moist and flavourful stuffing. I found the recipe on mushrooms.ca but I’ve modified it slightly by adjusting the ingredients to my taste (more mushrooms of course!) and adding white wine. Here’s the original recipe. We served it with mashed potatoes and my amazing Beet Salad.

Another great recipe from the Italian cuisine… although I must admit this version of Lasagna is more delicious than my other recipe for Lasagna with Chicken and Mushrooms. At least hubby was much more impressed with this one . It’s not exactly the traditional Italian recipe as I’ve decided to combine ground beef and pork while Italians usually make it using beef only… correct me if I’m wrong. We really enjoyed the way it turned out so I highly recommend you try it at home too.

I’ve been planning to make beans with smoked sausages for some time and this weekend I finally managed to do so. This recipe is very easy but it might take more time to get your meal ready… it all depends whether you choose to soak the beans or not. I’ve always soaked beans as I find it cuts cooking time and the beans usually turn out to be tenderer (not always though!). If you cook the beans in tap water that is hard your beans may never get tender. Many other cooks suggest that you don’t necessarily have to soak them, that it’s all just a matter of preference. I’ve recently come across an interesting post on how to cook dried beans and what the chefs have to say about soaking beans. Follow this link to read more details and now let’s get started…

I haven’t made stuffed peppers in ages even though they are pretty easy to make and we like them a lot. Stuffed with ground pork and/or beef, rice, tomato paste and seasonings, stuffed peppers (ardei umpluti) are very popular in Romania and they are usually served as a main dish. They are also quite popular in many of the Eastern European countries although depending on the region the recipe may be slightly different.

Whether it’s pork, chicken or shrimp teriyaki, we love this easy-to-make and tasty meal. However, I must admit this is the very first time I’m trying to make pork teriyaki at home. I’ve looked at several recipes and in the end I came up with the version below. It turned out excellent! I just loved how all the flavours blended together. We served it with steamed rice.

There are many mouth-watering recipes for roasted pork sirloin out there. I prepared these baked pork chops with white wine, garlic and other spices. We are big fans of garlic because of its flavour and health benefits so I have decided to try out this simple recipe that I found on a website (but again I adjusted it a little bit to our taste). It was a lunch choice for us on this Saturday and we served it with French Fries.

Cooking Sarmale for Christmas and all other major holidays is a Romanian tradition. They are usually made with pickled cabbage and stuffed with ground pork (sometimes combined with beef), rice and various herbs and spices. We serve it with polenta and a few generous tablespoons of sour cream.
